WONGOSOL and Partners Launch Baseline Assessment

The Women NGOs Secretariat of Liberia (WONGOSOL), in collaboration with Kvinna till Kvinna and a coalition of local partners, has officially launched baseline assessment activities for the PeaceGen Project. The initiative aims to strengthen women and youth leadership in transitional justice, reconciliation, and sustainable peacebuilding across Liberia.

The three-year project is being implemented with financial support from the European Union and the Embassy of Ireland in Liberia. Key third-party implementing partners include the Alliance for Peace, Justice and Human Rights, the National Young Women Political Council of Liberia, the Female Journalists Association of Liberia (FEJAL), and the Association of Female Lawyers of Liberia (AFELL).

The baseline assessment, which marks the first major step in the project’s rollout, is currently underway in five target counties: Bomi, Bong, Montserrado, Nimba, and Sinoe. The exercise is designed to ensure that all subsequent interventions are evidence-based, community-driven, and responsive to local realities.

In Bomi County, project partners have already conducted an orientation for field staff who will serve as data collectors and support stakeholder mapping efforts. Meanwhile, surveys and focus group discussions are ongoing in Montserrado, Sinoe, Bong, and Nimba Counties. These community engagements are capturing critical perspectives from youth, community members, and key stakeholders to help shape project interventions.

The PeaceGen Project seeks to create inclusive platforms for dialogue, strengthen community participation, and amplify the voices of women, youth, and survivors of conflict. Ultimately, the initiative aims to contribute to sustainable peace, reconciliation, and social cohesion across Liberia.

According to WONGOSOL and its partners, the findings from the baseline assessment will establish a foundational evidence base for project implementation. “This is about ensuring that the communities we serve are at the center of every decision,” a project spokesperson said. “We are not just collecting data—we are building trust and co-designing solutions with local stakeholders.”

Through this initiative, all partners reaffirm their commitment to advancing inclusive peacebuilding, strengthening reconciliation efforts, and promoting the active participation of women and youth in shaping a peaceful and inclusive future for Liberia.
