WONGOSOL Joins the Ministry Of Gender, Children and Social Protection-Liberia in Launching Liberia’s First GBV Information Management System

The Women NGOs Secretariat of Liberia (WONGOSOL) welcomes the launch of Liberia’s first Gender-Based Violence Information Management System (GBVIMS), a significant milestone in strengthening the country’s response to gender-based violence (GBV).

The Executive Director of WONGOSOL, Esther S. Davis Yango, participated in the launch convened by the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, under the leadership of Hon. Gbeme Horace-Kollie, Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection.

During her remarks, the Executive Director emphasized the need for stronger collaboration among the Ministries of Gender, Justice, and Health to ensure data integrity, harmonized reporting, and the establishment of one reliable national dataset on gender-based violence. She noted that civil society organizations have, at times, received different GBV figures from these institutions, underscoring the importance of a coordinated national approach to data management.

She also called on the Government of Liberia to complement development partners’ efforts by allocating adequate resources in the Ministry of Gender’s budget for additional data collection equipment across the counties. While the provision of two tablets per county is a starting point, this may not be sufficient to facilitate comprehensive data collection, particularly in remote and hard-to-reach communities where survivors often face significant barriers to reporting and accessing services.

WONGOSOL further underscored the importance of involving civil society organizations and frontline service providers in implementing the system, while ensuring strict adherence to confidentiality, data protection, informed consent, and survivor-centered principles.

We congratulate Hon. Gbeme Horace-Kollie and the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, alongside the development partners, technical teams, civil society organizations, and other stakeholders whose dedication and collaboration made this milestone possible.

As Liberia takes this important step, WONGOSOL calls for sustained government ownership, adequate financing, and stronger institutional coordination to ensure that reliable data translates into evidence-based policies, improved services, accountability, and justice for survivors of gender-based violence.

Better data. Stronger coordination. Greater accountability. A Liberia free from gender-based violence.
