Who We Are

A united network for women's rights

Founded in 1998, the Women NGOs Secretariat of Liberia (WONGOSOL) serves as a central body for women-led organizations in Liberia. As a non-governmental organization, WONGOSOL has a diverse membership that includes Community-Based Organizations (CBOs), Faith-Based Organizations (FBOs), and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), all of which operate in various sectors and thematic areas throughout the country.

More about us

Our Vision

A just and equitable society where the human rights and dignity of women and girls are promoted, respected, and where gender equality is achieved.

Our Mission

Committed to empowering women and girls, strengthening network members and promoting the freedom and human rights of women and girls and other marginalized groups.

Thematic Focus

Where we concentrate our efforts

Guided by Liberia's context and our gender & power analysis.

01

Women, Peace & Security

Advancing the inclusion of women in all processes that affect their peace and security, in line with UN Resolution 1325 and the Liberia National Action Plan.

02

Political Participation & Leadership

Confronting the barriers that keep women out of leadership — women hold just over 10% of seats in the Legislature — and building women's voice in governance.

03

Economic Empowerment

Closing gaps in literacy, employment and pay, and accelerating women's economic independence and access to finance.

04

Ending Violence Against Women & Girls

Preventing and responding to SGBV, domestic violence and harmful traditional practices, and strengthening survivor-centred services.

05

Access to Justice

Improving women's access to legal information and services and reforming a dual legal system that too often fails women, especially in rural areas.

06

Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR)

Advocating for amendment of the Public Health Law, access to accurate SRHR information and quality care, and an end to female genital mutilation and other harmful practices.

07

Climate Justice and Environmental Sustainability

Putting women's leadership at the centre of climate action and environmental governance, and pushing for gender-responsive climate policy and equitable access to climate financing.
