Project overview

The PeaceGen Project is a three-year initiative funded by the European Union and implemented by The Kvinna till Kvinna Foundation (KTK) in partnership with the Women NGOs Secretariat of Liberia (WONGOSOL) and four other youth- and women-led organizations across Liberia.

The project aims to strengthen the meaningful participation and leadership of youth and women in Liberia's ongoing peacebuilding, conflict prevention, decision-making and transitional justice processes at local and national levels.

Overall objective

To strengthen sustainable, in-country capacities for effective conflict management and peacebuilding.

Key objectives

  1. Strengthen the capacity of youth- and women-led organizations to promote peace and security.

  2. Increase youth and women participation in governance and policy dialogue.

  3. Prevent violence, hate speech and social conflict through community engagement and media outreach.

  4. Promote implementation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325 and the Youth, Peace and Security agenda.

Expected results

  • Increased skills and knowledge for youth to engage in community action for peacebuilding and transitional justice.

  • Reinforced intergenerational learning and dialogue on transitional justice at community level.

  • Increased capacities and means of CSOs, youth and women activists to advocate for a youth-responsive transitional justice process at local and national level.

  • Increased capacities and means of media actors to produce youth- and gender-responsive content on peacebuilding and transitional justice.

Capacity building

  • Development of a peacebuilding toolkit and training modules.

  • Training of trainers for partner organizations.

  • Organizational strengthening and mentoring.

Community engagement

  • Community dialogues and peace forums.

  • Radio talk shows and panel discussions.

  • Youth and women peace campaigns.

Advocacy and policy engagement

  • Meetings with government ministries and local authorities.

  • Policy briefs and recommendations.

  • National and county-level consultations.

Targeted beneficiaries

5,000 women and men selected from youth-led organisations, women's rights organizations, CSOs and community-based organisations (CBOs); 20 journalists; duty bearers from justice and security sector institutions; relevant government employees; and local women's groups.

Project counties

The project is implemented in Bomi, Bong, Montserrado, Nimba and Sinoe counties, with national-level advocacy and coordination based in Monrovia.
